Microsoft’s touchscreen PC technology, Surface, promises to be the be all and end all of next-gen computing.
Summoning geek fantasies of Minority Report-esque functionality, IT buffs the world over were dreaming of the day that they could turn their dining room table or (more likely, since no self respecting geek actually has a dining room table) their coffee table into a desktop PC.

Even Lonely Planet, whose rousing backpacker themed gumption seems the very antithesis of the IT nerd lifestyle, has given Microsoft licence to develop a proof of concept application for their future stores (sauce)
But, are we all just prematurely ejaculating before opening the lingerie section of the Target catalogue, as it were?
Are we forgetting this?

Project Natal, also developed by Microsoft, promises to be able to achieve all the flexibility of Surface, plus much more, without the, you know, actual screen.

The camera is able to track various points with pretty decent precision, face, voice, and item recognition, and will be a hell of a lot cheaper.
It is also due to be rolled out to xbox 360 owners over the next year or so.
